Release date: 26th July
Where to watch: BBC One
As everybody is going through their quarantine-o-vacation and OTT platforms becoming the new norm, BBC One is all set to release its much-awaited series based on Vikram Seth’s best seller ‘A Suitable Boy’.
Before we jolt up all the excitement about why it’s going to be unique, let’s get to know more on the series.
An epic love story set in post-partition days!
Narrated in the backdrop India’s Independence and post partition days, this six-parts series revolves around four large and wealthy North Indian families. It tells the story of Lata, a 19-year old Hindu girl who turns down her mother’s repeated efforts to find her a suitable husband.
Vikram Seth’s novel with the same name, from which this period drama has been adapted is one of the longest novels in English language.
Set in India, Seth’s ‘A Suitable Boy’ is an epic love story that deals with all kinds of social issues related to marriage, religion, caste and customs. It covers 18 months in the lives of four families and peeks into an engrossing (and neglected) period in Indian history.
First BBC series featuring all-Indian cast
BBC, for the first time came up with a historical drama featuring only people of colour. Also 110 cast members, 3 years and some magical locations in India make this series a visual delight.
Mira Nair who was the first woman to win the Golden Lion at Venice Film Festival has directed this masterpiece while the screenplay was done by famous Andrew Davis, well known for his works like his adaptation of Pride and Prejudice and Sandition.
‘Flames’ fame Tanya makes a comeback!
Who can deny the fact that Tanya Maniktala has officially entered our girl crush gang. Tanya, who was last seen in TVF’s ‘Flames’ portrays the character of Lata.
Not following the usual cliché pattern, this series will work as a fresh air in the middle of others despite being set almost 70 years ago. A star-studded cast with names like Tabu, Tanya Maniktala, Ishaan Khattar and Ram Kapoor and many more will sprinkle their magic to its reel life.
We cannot wait for it and we are sure neither do you.
