India vs South Africa

West Indies tour had been one of the most successful tours for Team India in recent times. India completed the tour without losing a single game in all the three formats, a kind of whitewash if we ignore the rain-win matches. Except for a few, everyone in the team delivered what was expected from them. If Rohit Sharma’s brilliant start made India win T20 series, it was Team India captain Virat Kohli who took away ODI series from Windies with his back to back centuries. Debutant Hanuma Vihari and comeback hero Ajinkya Rahane ensured India win the Test series as well. It is not fair to give credits to the batsmen alone, in fact, credit should go to bowlers mostly. If batsmen played their role diligently, bowlers outplayed Caribbean batsmen and helped India dominate the tour. Let’s analyze the performances of Indian players in West Indies and see how they fare in upcoming India vs South Africa series.

BCCI announced 15-men squad for first three T20s:

India will have to face South Africa in three T20s and three test matches, starting from September 15. India might test Chahar brothers in T20s and give more opportunities to Navdeep Saini and Khaleel Ahmed. With Hardik Pandya’s return, it would be interesting to see how Kohli is going to pick his final eleven.

India might not dare to experiment in test matches, the same trio (Bumrah, Ishant, Shami) is likely continue as they took 33/40 wickets against West Indies. But there are also equal chances of playing two seamers and two specialist spinners, keeping in mind the Asian pitch conditions. Ravindra Jadeja might get more importance for his bowling abilities. Ashwin, Chahal and Kuldeep might compete to secure a place in the playing XI.

The real challenge for Kohli lies in the batting line-up. Having scored 289 runs in four innings, Vihari might demand a place in final eleven along with Rahane who scored 271 runs. Despite wide criticism from twitterati, Kohli continued giving opportunities to KL Rahul instead of Rohit Sharma. But the talented batsman did not honor the chances given to him, scoring only 104 runs in four innings. On the other hand, Mayank Agarwal failed to continue his momentum created in Australia, scoring only 80 runs in four innings. This might open a positive door for Rohit to cement his position in test matches. It would be great if Rohit can open the innings along with Shikhar Dhawan and shatter all the jinx developed around him.

Apparently, it should not be a great deal for India to defeat already struggling proteas in Indian conditions. If everything goes well for India, series might turn into a nightmare for South Africa. I enjoy soliloquy, speaking to myself. But what I am capable of is a bit different, I can create many persons in my head and can speak with them. I keep myself at one end and my audience in the other end to create a conversation. Precisely that is what I put on paper, that is what I do whenever I write something, an undefined version of traditional soliloquy. To conclude, I just wanted to say I enjoy writing!
