After going down 0-3 in the ODI series, the Indian side led by Virat Kohli was again whitewashed 2-0 by New Zealand in the Tests which concluded on Monday. It was a disappointing series for the World No.1 Test side as their highest total across four innings was a paltry 242. Here is a sneak peek into the series in numbers.
Most runs for India
1. Mayank Agarwal 102 runs at 25.50
2. Cheteshwar Pujara 100 runs at 25.00
3. Prithvi Shaw 98 runs at 24.50
Most runs for New Zealand
1.Tom Latham 122 runs at 40.66
2. TA Blundell 117 runs at 39.00
3. Kane Williamson 97 runs at 32.33
Overall, it was a series where bowlers did most of the damage. Not a single century was scored while Williamson’s 89 was the highest score. India’s best performance in all the four innings was 58 runs by Mayank Agarwal!
1.Virat Kohli 38 runs at 9.50
2. Rishabh Pant 60 runs at 15.00
Kohli who was given the responsibility of leading the batting had a dismal series. His total contribution of 38 runs was significantly less than even the tail enders of India and New Zealand. The same goes with young Rishabh Pant who was preferred by the team management to the experienced Wriddhiman Saha as the wicket-keeper.
Most wickets in the series
Jasprit Bumrah 6
Ishant Sharma 5
Mohammed Shami 5
Tim Southee 14
Trent Boult 11
KA Jamieson 9
New Zealand’s top three bowlers accounted for an impressive haul of 34 wickets. In response, India’s famed trio of Bumrah, Ishant and Shami returned with only 16 wickets.
It was a disappointing series where youngsters like Prithvi Shaw, Mayank Agarwal and Rishabh Pant failed to capitalise on their opportunities
Debutant KA Jamieson finished with nine wickets including the key scalps of Virat Kohli and Cheteshwar Pujara to make a memorable return. The form of openers Tom Latham and TA Blundell and the pace duo Tim Southee and Trent Boult returning amongst the wickets were big positives for Williamson’s men.
