The 13th edition of the world’s biggest T20 tournament, Indian Premier League is finally back and is going to be held in UAE this year. The IPL which was earlier going to be held from 29th March was later postponed due to the sudden outbreak of Corona Virus. It has finally cleared its way and is possibly going to be held from 26th September to 13th November.
When, how, where?
The gates were opened for IPL after the ICC postponed the T20 World Cup 2020 which was scheduled to be held in October and November indefinitely. The tournament will be conducted behind closed doors without crowd.
Brijesh Patel, the IPL Governing Council chairman confirmed that all the 60 matches will be played, and the match schedules would be released shortly after a meeting between the BCCI and IPL governing council. They are currently awaiting the approval from the ICC and from the Indian government.
All the 60 matches would be held across three venues i.e. Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates. This would be the second time for the IPL in the UAE, after the initial stage of IPL 2014 was played there.
Franchises already gearing up
Some of the franchises have already started preparing for the tournament. All the players would need to practice for at least three to four weeks before the tournament takes off.
BCCI may soon announce a cap for all the Indian players under its contract. Players like Suresh Raina, Rishabh Pant, Mohammed Shami and Piyush Chawla have already started their practice.
It would be interesting see how the players perform in the wickets of UAE after being away from any types of cricket for months now. Overseas players who will be playing IPL for the first time or the ones who have little experience of IPL may face a tough time playing in the spin friendly pitches.
It will be worth the wait to witness the 2020 edition of the IPL and all our favorite cricketers in action again.
