7. Dhadkan

Directed by Dhramesh Darshan, this romantic drama was released in 2000. Dhadkan is a story of love and lovelorn and Akshay played a decent husband who’s unable to win his wife’s affection. This film brought so many laurels for Akshay for his impeccable performance. Akshay even nominated for Best Actor at IIFA but lost to Hrithik Roshan (Kaho Naa…Pyaar Hai).

Rustom is a superhit film that was based on a real life incident of Naval Officer K M Nanavati. Akshay portrayed the role of the Naval Officer and received the National Film Award for Best Actor for his incredible performance. Also starring Ileana D’Cruz, Esha Gupta, and Arjan Bajwa in main roles, Rustom is known for its gripping screenplay and soul filling music.

Khiladi is the movie which made Akshay the star he is today. The Abbas Mustan directorial released in 1992 to become one of the blockbusters of the year and also in Akshay’s career. With the huge success the movie gave him, Akshay came up with 7 more films with the word “Khiladi” in it. Khiladi is also a musical hit, being one of the most sold albums of the year.

4. Pad Man

Akshay Kumar is known for his many superhero roles like that of Chandni Chowk to China and 2.0. But he portrayed a real-life superhero in his film called Pad Man. Inspired by a social entrepreneur named Arunachalam Muruganantham, who invented low-cost sanitary pad-making equipment, Pad Man movie is one of the critically and commercially successful films of Akshay’s career. Also, Pad Man won the National Award for Best Film on Social Issues.

3. Oh My God

OMG is a satirical comedy-drama which was based on the Australian film The Man Who Sued God. Akshay Kumar, who also produced the movie, acted as Lord Krishna who befriends an atheist (Paresh Rawal). The movie opened to negative talk but became a superhit and one of the biggest hits of 2012, collecting over Rs 180 cr. 

2. Special 26

Based on a real incident that happened in Mumbai city in 1987, Special 26 is a crime thriller directed by Neeraj Pandey. This film received a huge critical acclaim thanks to the enthralling performances of Akshay Kumar, Manoj Bajpayee among others. Also, Special 26 stood out for its new-age storytelling and named one of the best movies of 2013.
