Amid much hoopla, finally the 92nd Academy Awards event came to an end on Sunday night. Hollywood celebrities turned up in their best at the venue that saw a surprise performance by Eminem and some emotional acceptance speeches by winners. Truly, the gala fete lived up to its spirit, giving millions of movie-lovers a peep into the best of Hollywood.
The glamorous event presented the best of world cinema, as ‘Parasite’ went on to create history by winning the Best Picture Award, the first to be won by a non-English film. Korean cinema announced its dramatic entry on the world map by sweeping four Oscars (Best Picture, Best Foreign Language Film, Best Original Screenplay and Best Director for Bong Joon Ho.)
It was a special night for Joaquin Phoenix too, who won Best Actor Award for his mesmerizing performance in Joker. Brad Pitt did a clean sweep by bagging another Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for his portrayal of ageing stuntman Cliff Booth in ‘Once Upon A Time In Hollywood’. Laura Dern won the Best Supporting Actress for Marriage Story.
Renee Zellweger made a comeback by winning an Oscar for best actress for ‘Judy’.This is her second Oscar. Another memorable film that got Oscar was Jojo Rabbit. Taika Watiti won the Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay for this hilarious comedy set in WW II era in Germany.
The night was memorable for the war movie, 1917 too. We don’t really need to guess why it won the Oscar for Best Cinematography when we all sat in the theatre in awe watching its beautifully choreographed camera work by legendary Roger Deakins. The film also won Oscars for Sound Mixing and Special Effects.
The Oscars ended on a happy note by presenting the most glamorous side of Hollywood. Until next year we meet again, let’s hope to enjoy more of world cinema honored at the Oscars.
