Sacred Games and Lust Stories – India’s second chance to win at International Emmys
Nominations for the International Emmy Awards 2019 have been released by the jury and India scored big. Anurag Kashyap’s daring thriller series Sacred Games has been nominated in the Best Drama category and Radhika Apte has been nominated for “Best Performance by an Actress” for her role in Lust Stories. Also, Lust Stories has been nominated in the Best TV movie/Mini series category.
What’s common in these three nominations is the presence of Anurag Kashyap; he helmed the Sacred Games, he is one of the four directors of Lust Stories. He also directed the part in which Radhika Apte acted. The Gangs of Wasseypur director took to his Instagram to tell the news and shared his joy. Other Bollywood celebrities rushed to social media to congratulate and celebrate the achievement.
Sacred Games will contest with One Against All, Bad Banks, and McMafia which are nominated in the Drama Series. These International Emmy Awards are conducted to honour the best shows which are produced outside the US.
However, this is not the first time India has contested in the International Emmy Awards. For the year of 2018, Inside Edge, an Amazon produced TV series was nominated for Best Drama category. But eventually, this sports drama lost to the Spanish crime drama Money Heist.
Starring Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Saif Ali Khan, Kalki Koechlin among others, Sacred Games has created a lot of buzz with the release of its second season. On the other hand, Lust Stories is an anthology with four different stories directed by four directors; Anurag Kashyap, Dibakar Benarjee, Zoya Akthar, and Karan Johar.
The winners of the International Emmy Awards will be announced on November 25.
