Chak De India director Kabir Khan’s 83 based on India’s World Cup victory, starring Ranveer Singh and Sania biopic are the key highlights of this year.
After the success of Lagaan, Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, Chak De India and Dangal, Bollywood is gearing up for a host of films with sports as its central theme.
All these movies are slated to release this year but due to the deadly Coronavirus attack, we are not sure how many will hit the screens in 2020. These movies are being made on diverse subjects ranging from India’s 1983 World Cup victory to a biopic on the legendary Indian coach Syed Abdul Rahim. Here goes the list.
83 is an upcoming sports drama film based on India’s 1983 title win at Lords by Chak De India director Kabir Khan. It is jointly produced by Khan, Vishnu Vardhan Induri, Phantom Films, Deepika Padukone and Sajid Nadiadwala. Ranveer Singh is the lead actor in this film, essaying the role of Kapil Dev.
Bhaag Milkhaa Bhaag director Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra is up with another riveting sports flick. The Rang De Basanti director is again collaborating with Farhan Akthar for the story of a national-level boxer. The movie also stars Paresh Rawal, Mrunal Thakur and Isha Talwar.
After the success of Tanhaji, Ajay Devgn is coming up with a biopic on legendary football coach Syed Abdul Rahim. The film is directed by Amit Ravidrenath Sharma.
The talented Parineeti Chopra has replaced Shradha Kapoor in the biopic on star shuttler Saina Nehwal recently. The much-anticipated project is helmed by Taare Zameen Par fame Amole Gupte and produced by Bhushan Kumar.
Marathi director Nagraj Manjule, known for Sairaat and Fandry is making his much-awaited Bollywood debut, starring Big B. Jhund is loosely based on the life of Vijay Barse, the founder of an NGO named Slum Soccer.
The other films in the pipeline include a biopic on Mithali Raj titled ‘Shabaash Mithu’ and remake of Telugu film ‘Jersey’ starring Taapsee Pannu and Shahid Kapoor.
