India is witnessing an unprecedented situation of shortage of necessary commodities during the 21-day lockdown announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. In many parts of the country, police have resorted to lathi-charge on people amid grave shortage of supplies. Videos of alleged police atrocities on citizens are now trending widely on social media.

Cops attack citizens

Meanwhile, Bollywood celebrities have reacted sharply to reports of such police atrocities on the hapless citizens.

Noted Bollywood filmmaker Anurag Kashyap has shared a video from UP, which shows cops forcing a migrant labourer from Gwalior to crawl on the road in scorching heat. Kashyap has described the situation as horrible. Meanwhile writer Varun Grover wondered if India belongs only to those mighty and powerful.

Popular actor Richa Chadda has slammed the police and asked how they can resort to such blatant violations in the name of checking the Coronavirus.

Noted director Shekhar Kapur also criticized the law enforcing authorities for the excesses. He shared that a class war would erupt in India. Thousands of migrant laborers are in peril and struggling to go back to their homes, he said.

Sharing a video of police atrocities on people, Thappad director Anubhav Sinha wondered if it is legal to thrash citizens like the way police are now doing in the country.
