An allegory on present-India, Kamal played the role of the protagonist, Saket Ram. He becomes a follower of Mahatma Gandhi after realizing the futility of violence in the wake of Hindu-Muslim violence in the country. Despite having a star cast consisting of Shah Rukh Khan, Rani Mukherjee and a powerful storyline, this historical fiction was a failure at box office.
