It’s always a thrilling scene to watch our favorite team become the number one team in any format. The same vibe we experienced right now again. After a clean sweep of the West Indies 3-0 in the T20I series in Kolkata on Sunday, Ion Morgan’s England thrashed to the top of the ICC T20I rankings under Rohit Sharma. For the first time since February 2016, the Asian giants have returned to the top of the T20 rankings.
The overall victory over the West Indies helped India move up to two hundred and sixty-nine (269) points with England in the ICC T20I rankings. India, who were knocked out in the Super 12 stages of the 2021 T20 World Cup, beat New Zealand 3-0 and the West Indies 3-0 in nine matches last year. In 39 international matches during the rankings, England and India have the same rating (269), with India totaling 10,484 points, 10 more than England’s 10,474.
Rohit Sharma also holds the record of being the first Indian captain to lead a team to three or more series whitewashes in T20I cricket. Rohit had earlier led India to a clean sweep against Sri Lanka (2017), West Indies (2018), and New Zealand (2021). He is the third captain to achieve this feat after Pakistan’s Sarfraz Ahmed (5).
Here are the Top 5 teams according to ICC Ranking
1. India – 269
2. England – 269
