The Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar’s cricket brain needs no special introduction to any cricket fan. During a recent interaction with Virender Sehwag for a media publication, Sachin recalled his conversation with his opening partner during the 2011 World Cup final.

The secret finally revealed!

“Gambhir and Kohli were building a good partnership after me and Viru were dismissed. We were sitting unmoved in the dressing room. I told Viru that if a left hander (Gambhir in this case) is dismissed, Yuvi should walk in and if the right hander (Kohli) is out, Mahi should bat ahead of Yuvi. I said so because the left hand- right hand combination can confuse spinners like Muralidharan. I asked Viru to pass the message to MS. By the time, Dhoni had walked in and I told him the same thing. He agreed and we spoke to Gary (Indian coach) and the plan worked out wonderfully well in the final.”

MS Dhoni played a captain’s knock in the final, guiding Team India to an emphatic six-wicket win over Sri Lanka in the final.
