Rishabh Pant

Team India’s just-concluded T20 series against New Zealand seems to give an answer on who will succeed MS Dhoni in the limited over format as wicket-keeper.

The talented KL Rahul and his good show in his last few innings seemed to have taken his case above the young Rishabh Pant who had already received in numerous opportunities in the past.

Despite Pant’s superb batting performance including hitting a couple of centuries in test matches overseas, team management is really worried about his lack-luster show behind the stumps.

So, when he was injured during the India-Australia ODI series, the team experimented with KL Rahul who scored an impressive 80 in just 52 balls in the 2nd ODI, and also displayed decent show as wicket keeper. Pant, despite being fit did not get a single chance in the New Zealand T20 series with Rahul donning multiple roles as opener and wicket keeper.

The future ahead for Pant?

Virat Kohli believes in putting the best eleven for Team India in all formats of the game. Perhaps, Pant was introduced too early to international cricket despite not having much of domestic experience. Players like Wriddhiman Saha and Dinesh Karthik became fine keepers after learning it the hard way.

Perhaps, the team management would consider Pant as a deserving player and want him to play more domestic matches before he could move on to international cricket. Indeed, all is not over for the young Pant who is a future talent.

I enjoy soliloquy, speaking to myself. But what I am capable of is a bit different, I can create many persons in my head and can speak with them. I keep myself at one end and my audience in the other end to create a conversation. Precisely that is what I put on paper, that is what I do whenever I write something, an undefined version of traditional soliloquy. To conclude, I just wanted to say I enjoy writing!
