BCCI President Sourav Ganguly has said that the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 is likely to take place in India until COVID-19 situation becomes alarming. With IPL 2022 the mega auction in less than two weeks, Ganguly’s comments have made Indian cricket fans happy. The IPL 2020 has been entirely in the UAE for the past two years. It started in India but had to be stopped halfway due to a COVID-19 outbreak and was held in the UAE a few months later. The former Indian captain added that the board is planning to hold the league stage of the 15th edition of the IPL in Mumbai and Pune. Ganguly, however, did not specify whether he would allow crowds at the venues.

IPL will take place in India until COVID-19 situation becomes alarming Ganguly told Sportstar when asked about the venue for IPL 2022.

Although the BCCI has not yet officially announced the start date of IPL 2022, Board Secretary Jay Shah has hinted that the tournament is likely to start by the end of March.

The IPL will mark the entry of two new franchises- Lucknow Super Giants and Ahmedabad- with 10 teams.

All the franchises will try to create a strong team by selecting the right players in the two-day mega auction to be held in Bangalore on February 12 and 13. A total of 590 cricketers will step down and all eyes will be on big names like Ravichandran Ashwin, Shreyas Iyer, Ishan Kishan, Yuzvendra Chahal, David Warner, Quinton deKock, F.duPlessis, and J.Archer.

The 10 franchises have already retained 33 cricketers and they are now looking to build a team around the superstars.

Ganguly also shared his thoughts on India’s major domestic tournament, Ranji Trophy which is likely to be held in two phases this time after being canceled last year.
