The atmosphere at Lord’s, spoke volumes- silent, and overshadowed. Huge favourites earlier, now at the brink of elimination. Australia were the dominant side throughout the game. Aussie openers were brilliant to lay the platform, banking on English men’s difficulty to hit the right areas. The pitch at Lord’s looked soft early in the innings and Finch played cautiously for his well-deserved century. Though England pulled things back at the end, Australia’s 285 seemed a very fighting total.

It was the Aussies turn with the ball, and they did not disappoint! Both Starc and Behrendorff were spot on and a second ball wicket triggered England’s unimaginable collapse. England’s only bright spark was Ben Stokes- his witty 89 was the only resistance England displayed. He was dismissed to arguably ‘the Ball of the Tournament’ from Mitch Starc- A Peach of a delivery! A five-fer for Behrendorff closed a very good day for the Baggy Greens.

Coming to the stats, Aussies are the first team to qualify for semis. They top the charts in bowling and batting, Starc with 19 scalps, Warner and Finch sharing the spoils with 500 and 496 runs each with the bat. On the other hand, England need at least one win (in all likeliness) to stand a chance to qualify. They will face India and New Zealand, the only two teams to remain unbeaten. Their WC dreams are still intact, but are fast approaching panic buttons.

I enjoy soliloquy, speaking to myself. But what I am capable of is a bit different, I can create many persons in my head and can speak with them. I keep myself at one end and my audience in the other end to create a conversation. Precisely that is what I put on paper, that is what I do whenever I write something, an undefined version of traditional soliloquy. To conclude, I just wanted to say I enjoy writing!
